UMPSA receives 4 Diamond LCC2030C 2025 recognition, records nearly 37% GHG reduction

KUALA LUMPUR, 12 February 2026 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) continues to advance as a sustainable campus after successfully receiving 4 Diamond recognition for the Pekan campus under the Zone Category and Diamond recognition for the Gambang campus in the Low Carbon City 2030 Challenge (LCC2030C) Year 2025.

The prestigious recognition is an initiative organised by the Malaysian Green Technology & Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), introduced since 2019, with the objective of accelerating the transformation of Malaysian cities towards low-carbon development in line with the national aspiration of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

For the 2025 edition, UMPSA recorded an impressive achievement with a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of 36.89 per cent since 2019, covering all programme evaluation elements.

Overall, the university successfully reduced 5,471.77 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2eq), demonstrating the continuous commitment of the campus community in supporting the sustainability and sustainable development agenda.

The LCC2030C programme evaluates organisational performance based on five main elements, namely energy, water, waste, mobility, and greenery and water bodies.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ts. Dr. Yatimah Alias, who was present to receive the award, said the achievement is the result of the continuous commitment of the entire university community in cultivating low-carbon practices on campus.

“This success is not merely a recognition, but serves as a benchmark of UMPSA’s determination in realising the sustainability agenda comprehensively.

“The 4 Diamond recognition reflects the collective commitment of the UMPSA community in mainstreaming the sustainability and climate action agenda at the university level.

“The nearly 37 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2019 proves that strategic approaches and systematic implementation of initiatives can deliver significant impact,” she said.

She added that UMPSA will continue to strengthen efforts towards becoming a low-carbon campus by 2030 in line with national aspirations and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

“I would like to record my appreciation to all departments, responsibility centres, and members of the campus community who played active roles in implementing various initiatives involving energy efficiency, water and waste management, green mobility, and the preservation of campus green areas,” she said.

Also present to receive the award was the Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of UMPSA Holdings, Ts. Mohd Fadzil Mohd Idris.

This recognition further strengthens UMPSA’s position as a higher education institution committed to supporting the ESG agenda and sustainable eco-campus development for future generations.
