47 graduates awarded CBTM Diploma to enhance leadership competency

GAMBANG, 29 October 2024 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) celebrated the achievements of 47 graduates from the Competency-Based Talent Management (CBTM) Professional Diploma Programme at the 19th UMPSA Convocation Ceremony.

These graduates successfully completed the programme this year.

The CBTM programme is specifically designed to meet the needs of Human Resources practitioners in universities by equipping them with the tools to manage talent using a competency-based approach.

The programme is the result of a strategic collaboration between the Talent Management Centre, Higher Leadership Academy (AKEPT), the Faculty of Industrial Management (FIM) at UMPSA, and UMPSA Advanced Education.

Through this partnership, AKEPT has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing talent development in public universities (UA), particularly in cultivating exceptional leadership within the higher education sector.

This initiative emphasises holistic talent development and management, aligning with the organic growth approach, which focuses on the comprehensive development of individuals.

According to Associate Professor Dr Norazharuddin Shah Abdullah, Deputy Director of the AKEPT Talent Management Centre, AKEPT, UMPSA, and UMPSA Advanced Education are steadfast in championing the CBTM agenda.

“After five graduating cohorts, public universities now have a group of professionals with a deep understanding of CBTM.

“These individuals are well-equipped to help their institutions implement effective talent management initiatives based on the appropriate competency frameworks,” he said.

Now entering its fifth cohort since its inception, the programme reflects UMPSA’s commitment to elevating the professionalism and competency of university Human Resources practitioners in talent management.

The programme not only imparts in-depth knowledge of competency-based talent management but also provides hands-on practical training to ensure participants are fully prepared to address the challenges of managing talent in universities.

Meanwhile, Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Ashraff Fauzi@Fauri, the Chief Researcher leading the initiative, expressed hope that the CBTM programme could serve as a benchmark for progress in Human Resource Management at universities.

“The achievements of this year’s graduates demonstrate the success of the collaborative efforts between AKEPT, UMPSA, and the programme participants in fostering more effective and high-impact talent management,” he said.

With the success of these 47 graduates, AKEPT and UMPSA remain committed to offering high-quality programmes that enhance talent management skills and expertise among Human Resources practitioners in universities, contributing to the advancement of the nation’s higher education system.
