UMPSA collaboration with BAEG and PKPB in international mobility strengthens Advanced TVET
BEIJING, 29 May 2024 - Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) collaborated with BEIFANG Automotive Education Group (BAEG) and the National Organisation of Skilled Workers (BELIA MAHIR) in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to undergo upskilling training in producing industry-available skilled professional workforce for career development and graduate employability (GE) in Malaysia.
This strategic collaboration involves PKPB and TANG International Education (China) under the efforts of Malaysia-China Institute (MCI) through China’s Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) on the implementation of the Malaysia-China Advanced TVET Mobility Programme (MYCHAT) in China.
This collaboration will benefit the national highly skilled human capital development to fill the national job market and global infrastructure development.
In the event, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim Mohamed represented the UMPSA Vice-Chancellor in signing the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Head of BELIA MAHIR, Mohammad Rizan Hassan and the Director of International Business of Beifang International Education, Han Lili, witnessed by the Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who is also the Chairman of the National TVET Council.
All present were the Chairman of RISDA/Tenggara Assemblyman, who is also the Chairman of the Advisory Board of Malaysia-China Institute (MCI), Tuan Haji Manndzri Haji Nasib and Chairman of the Beifang International Education, Cao Zhenfeng.
According to Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Rusllim, this international mobility programme provides opportunities to students to join the finishing school programme and additional competency course training at international institutions through the university’s efforts in developing competitive TVET students characteristics.
“This programme is also one of the student internationalisation agendas in Strategic Objective 6 under UMPSA Strategic Plan which is Student Internationalisation and Entrepreneurship in line with the key performance indicators (KPIs) under the Critical Agenda Program (CAPS) for internationalisation in the National Higher Education Strategic Plan (PSTPN),” he said.
The collaboration with BAEF also exploits the sharing of expertise and training equipment, staff and student exchange, work-based learning (WBL), TVET seminars and training, cultural and mobility programmes, research and publication.
He said, to date there are 20 participants succeeded in obtaining professional certification under MYChAT which gave participants the opportunity in the field of artificial intelligence at Beijing Polytechnic.
“Meanwhile, there are 30 participants including students from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) who are currently undergoing training at the Beifang Automotive Training Centre, Beijing, China specialising in automotive engineering and focusing on the technology of electric vehicle (EV) and hydrogen vehicle (HV).
“This collaboration aims to widen the mobility programme with advanced TVET competency certification from training institutions or industries in China.
“This initiative is also seen to support the government efforts to send national young talents to get high-tech skills,” he said.
He further said that this effort could bring international students to Malaysia through the initiative of increasing premium graduate employability and support the effort of edu-tourism implemented in UMPSA.
“With the support from MOHE especially the Student Affairs Division, Department of Higher Education, UMPSA as the leader for the MyChat24 programme will offer this programme to students, graduates or staff to join the upskilling programme of getting competency certificate in the field of artificial intelligence and others including electric vehicle (EV), hydrogen vehicle (HV), heritage railway technology, e-commerce, advanced manufacturing automation (robotics), good manufacturing practices (GMP), data science, analytics and health sciences and Chinese cultural & heritage,” he said.
