UMPSA Library transformation enhances access, creates new user experience
PEKAN, 9 April 2026 – The Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) Library has introduced a new concept of library services that is more open and flexible, transforming the user experience towards a smoother and more technology-friendly learning environment.
This concept has been implemented in line with the use of new ultra high frequency (UHF)-based technology, which is capable of detecting library materials more widely and efficiently without the need for a physical gate structure.
As a result, users’ movement in and out of the library has become smoother, and it is no longer tied to the entry process, which was previously somewhat limited.
The library atmosphere now also feels more open and comfortable for users to carry out learning activities.

From a security perspective, this new detection system still ensures that library materials are monitored effectively through more advanced technology compared with the previous system.
According to the Chief Librarian, Hajah Kamariah Gono, the library is working to strengthen its role as an inclusive and user-friendly knowledge space.
“The library is now shifting towards an open concept that emphasises access without physical barriers.
“Facilities such as entrance and exit points, as well as the existing security system, have been improved in line with this new approach to ensure that the monitoring of user movement and library materials continues to be carried out effectively.
“This shift is not merely a change in physical structure, but also marks an evolution in the philosophy of library services,” she said.
She further added that, without movement restrictions, users now enjoy more comprehensive access, creating an experience that is more open, flexible, and user-friendly.
For a student from the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FSTI), Farah Syahirah Talib, this change clearly facilitates user movement within the library.

“It is now easier to enter, and there is no need to wait in line, so everything becomes faster,” she said.
Meanwhile, according to Ratna Wilis Haryati Mustapa, a library public member and UMPSA retiree, this change provides a more comfortable and user-friendly experience.
“As soon as I step in, I am immediately greeted by a more spacious and comfortable environment, as if it truly welcomes my presence.
“The absence of narrow passageways now makes movement easier, especially for me as I use a walking stick.
“In fact, as soon as I enter, my attention is immediately drawn to the neatly arranged service counter, which further facilitates every matter,” she said.
This transformation is among the steps taken by the UMPSA Library in adapting its services to current needs, while also supporting efforts towards a more modern and user-friendly learning environment.
